Bill Clinton Joins Twitter
Former President Bill Clinton is enhancing his social media presence as he officially joins millions of other Twitter users last Wednesday. He is tweeting using the handle @BillClinton, which is already Twitter-verified with that “blue check” badge.
Clinton learned to tweet from comedian and television host Stephen Colbert, who got him into Twitter under the handle @PrezBillyJeff. While this account is also verified, the the forty-second president would be tweeting from now on under @BillClinton.
Among Mr. Clinton’s first tweets under the new handle was a mention to Colbert saying he is getting Twitter lessons from his daughter Chelsea, who has over 128,000 followers on her Twitter account @ChelseaClinton.
Judging from Clinton’s Twitter bio, the former president will likely to be tweeting mostly about the Clinton Foundation, a humanitarian organization he founded after leaving the White House in 2001. His bio reads: “Founder, Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States. Follow @ClintonFdn for more about my work around the world.”
Clinton is the latest former American president alive today to join the microblogging platform, after current president Barack Obama. George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter will unlikely to have their own Twitter in their lifetimes, but their official libraries are tweeting. Bill’s wife, Hillary Clinton, also has yet to set up a personal Twitter account.
